In case you are ever interested in learning better social etiquette, there are a couple of great books in print explaining proper social inter-minglings. One of these is Things You Need To Be Told by the Etiquette Grrls. I picked this book up from the book store a few weeks ago, and have been slowly chipping away at it. After I realized how horrible the writing, subject matter and attitudes were, combined with a thorough lack of respect for the English language. And they might just have a drinking problem, where the only activity they seem to find fun and acceptable is tossing back Gin and Tonics. Oh how cute.
And I read 100 whole pages.
That is, before I decided to go on Amazon and read some angry reviews.
So here we go, a customer's disapproval:
Warning: this book is highly offensive. I am specifically referring to the chapters which indicate how "rude" it is to have acne. The advice given: go see a dermatologist, because putting on sparkly eye shadow is much more fun than covering up pulsating acne boils. Well, I have some news: dermatologists do not have magic creams or pills that will make your acne go away and immediately give you crystal clear, glowing skin. Acne is a complicated disease that has no cure and wreaks havoc on a person's self esteem. This book treats people with acne as though they do not do anything about it. I would hate for someone to judge me or think I do not take care of myself as this book implies. Also- what about the people who do not have health insurance and therefore, cannot afford acne medications; are they being "rude"? These authors are extremely judgmental and give really bad advice. Their advice is hazardous to both your physical and mental health. I wish I were exaggerating. The authors say that it is extremely rude to not allow guests to smoke inside. Well, I guess we will all have to get lung cancer and die, because god forbid we be rude and not allow smokers subject us to their second hand smoke in our own homes. This book is just plain ridiculous.
