A look into the soul of beer.
We did it. We finally did it. I've studied how to actually make my own beer, I've toured all of the local breweries including Live Oak Brewery, (512) Brewery and Independence Brewery. I've had my fair share of foreign, local, and mircobrews. And today, Jake and I decided to make a New Years IPA to bring in the new decade and say a formal farewell to what was 2009. And while we are at it, goodbye 2000s.
All in all, if you ever decide to concoct your own beer, you will have every option available at your fingertips. With the legalization of home brewing, and the introduction of specialty stores such as Austin Homebrew, almost any type and any brew is easy to replicate and bottle, for less than a dollar a bottle after it is done and in the can. And by "can" I mean the empty bottles Jake and I have been saving to store the 50 or so beers we will have on our hands in 10 days.
Adding some flair with cascade hops.
Besides tossing around bags of malts, hops and grains for four hours, most of the brewing process made me feel like a witch huddled over a 21st century stove, churning and checking and timing allthewhile.
The finished product, for now.
